Rights on Spiritual Creations

Recently, the European Parliament voted for the extension of the copyright of songs from 50 to 70 years, due to the increasing demand of the creators -who now live longer than in previous decades- and the music industries, who've lately seen their profits fall because of the wide-spread free downloading (sharing, erroneously known as "piracy").

My thoughts -apart from the obviously delusional nature of "owning" an idea (and monetarily profiting from it)- is that the politicians anguish about the "rights" of the big companies and those, superstar, artists who can actually become rich from their creations...

...but, where are the laws to protect and encourage the young, obscure musician?
(And no, the 20% of the revenue is not helpful enough!...)
