The Strongest Forces...

The Universe is permeated by a multitude of forces and drives, as they’re expressed by natural phenomena and living beings.
However, two of them are so strong that their role is defining to the function of the Universe.
This “Dreadful Duo” is Entropy and Inertia.

Simply put, Entropy is the measure of disarray and deterioration in a system. As a whole, the Entropy of the Universe continually increases (2nd Thermodynamic Law).

Inertia is the innate predisposition of a system to keep its motive state. If it’s immobile, it “wants” to stay that way; if it’s moving, it “wants” to keep moving, in that direction. The measure of Inertia is the mass of the system. Roughly, the bigger a system it is, the more it resists to change.

These two “drives” of the Universe are so strong that their effects echo right down to our everyday lives. Everything we are, think or do is under constant threat of being formed by Entropy or Inertia, not our (good) Will or genetic predisposition. Even our needs and desires are often products of Entropy and Inertia inside and around us.
Change is difficult and when it happens, it’s usually towards disintegration. Everything tends to fall apart and it needs effort, expenditure of energy not to. The “easy way out” is usually not the wisest or best solution. Habit is forming (or ruining) our lives.
All these are results of Entropy and Inertia.

And that’s what the actual Ascension War is about. It’s the struggle Mankind, the most complex and “anti-entropic” Structure in the physical world, gives to rise above these two and achieve its Destiny, however one may define It.

Role-playing Games, part 1, Definitions, part 2

I love Role-playing games (RPGs). The “pen&paper” kind, not the computer ones. I find them an excellent means of venting my creativity. However, there are two RPGs that have specifically contributed in forming my worldview.

The first one is A World of Darkness: Mummy (2nd Edition, to be specific), from White Wolf Inc. (WW#2224)

This book refers to ancient Egyptian mythology and along with this I learnt the word that ancient Egyptians used for the True Name, or Ren of things.
I now regularly use the word “ren” to express the True Name of something, the word that contains its meaning, its essence.

Or, as someone else said: “Words have meaning and names have power.” (Lorien, Babylon 5 Ep.402, Whatever happened to Mr. Garibaldi?)
(BTW, check this link out: All I Ever Needed to Know I Learned from Babylon 5. We’ll be talking about it in future posts!)

The second game is also from White Wolf and it’s Mage: The Ascension. (WW#4000).

Though not my favourite RPG, it has every reason to define anyone’s worldview, since it’s a game about Reality itself! (Or, more specifically, about “Reality on the brink”).
In there, I found useful words, such as:

Paradigm

Pattern (Structure)

Tapestry (The malleable Reality as a whole)

Quintessence (Spiritual energy, what else?)

Resonance (The “feeling” of a Pattern or someone’s actions upon Reality)

And, of course, the Ascension War, which, in a way, it also exists in the real world. (Not among “Awakened” people, but between Humanity and the Universe).
But more about it on a future post…

Definitions, part 1

Ok, there’s a word that I really like to use and it’s an essential part of my “personal vocabulary”. The word is Structure (or Pattern, but I like “Structure” better and I think it’s more accurate) and I use it to describe:

1. Something that exists. In the physical world or imaginary.

2. The way that something is.

3. An idea, an abstract.

A person is a Structure, a series of events is a Structure (a pattern), a feeling is a Structure.

For better understanding, it’s helpful to think everything as an edifice and its Structure as the way it is built, the materials used etc.

Very first entry...

Testing… testing… 1, 2, 3… This is my voice to the world…

Though English is not my native language, it’s international, therefore it is the one I’ll be using.
